CVG Airport

Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG)

About CVG Airport
The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, more commonly known as the Greater Cincinnati Airport, is the only airport in the area of Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio that offers non-stop transatlantic service. Delta and Comair, its subsidiary, take in over 88% of the flights at CVG, which is often the cause of the airport’s steep domestic ticket prices. Unfortunately, Cincinnati Airport ranks among the most expensive in the U.S., with prices and fares that can be found up to 50% cheaper at nearby airports.

Since 2006, passenger statistics and aircraft movements at CVG have been decreasing each year.

Location
CVG is located in Hebron, Kentucky, the unincorporated county of Boone. It provides service to the greater Cincinnati metropolitan area, and is only 13 miles south of downtown. It is easily accessible by I-275 and offers a handful of transportation options for arriving and departing passengers, including car service, bus, taxi, and rental options.

History
President Franklin Roosevelt approved funds for the future site of the Greater Cincinnati Airport. Five years later in 1947, the first plane touched down and CVG was in business. At the dawn of the jet age, expansion and renovation was needed at the airport, with more modern terminals and facilities. A new runway was added in 1971 and passenger numbers began to reach into the millions.

Despite an early growth spurt for Delta at CVG, they began to downsize their hub as of 2006. The airline cut approximately 50% of its flights down to approximately 70 destinations.

Services
CVG is one airport that is dedicated in providing some of the most unique and rewarding services to its passengers. Their new airport-wide loyalty program is called CVGfirs, and is their reward program in which travelers can earn miles by parking, dining, and shopping at the airport, with no additional costs. This is especially worthwhile for business travelers or those who frequent the airport.

The Equestrian Program at CVG is unmatched to any other airport in North America; several miles of riding trails are located around the airport in fields and wooded areas from May to September. Riders are invited to join the program at no cost, but they do have to provide their own horse.

Golf World Magazine rated the PGA Tour Shop inside CVG as one of the best 100 golf shops. Travelers have many shopping and dining options when at the airport, and golf retail is just one of them. Whether it is a fast-food restaurant or a more casual meal, passengers have over 70 enticing offers.
