Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF)

About BUF Airport
The busiest airport in Upstate New York and the third busiest in the state, Buffalo Niagara International Airport offers 110 daily flights. It has ranked fifth in the nation as the least expensive place from which to fly, this has not always been the case for airports in Upstate New York. It is one of the fastest growing airports in the area, and with its close proximity to Ontario, an average of one out of three passengers hails from Canada. Location
Buffalo Niagara International is situated in the town of Cheektowaga, New York. This is in Erie County, a short distance from the 8 million residents of Ontario’s Golden Horseshoe region. The airport mainly serves Buffalo, New York and Southern Ontario, Canada. For passenger convenience, many shuttles travel to and from the airport and cities within Southern Ontario; making it a very popular airport for Canadians traveling within the US.

Taxis, sedans, limousines, vans, rental cars, and metro buses are available to assist travelers reaching their final destinations. For those waiting for passengers to arrive, a cell phone parking lot, Park n Ride, is a free service available for drivers.

History
What is now Buffalo Niagara was first created when aviation enthusiasts noted an airport would be a vital link for industrial and commercial growth in the area. Farmland was purchased in 1925 and the Buffalo Municipal Airport was built the following year. Both airmail and passenger service began in 1927. The airport’s name was changed to the Greater Buffalo International Airport in 1959 and experienced renovations and remodeling to its main terminal building. Unfortunately, this eventually proved a waste of time as it soon outgrew its capacity. An entirely new airport was constructed in 1995 and opened two years later with great celebration; Buffalo Niagara International Airport became its new name. Today, the airport is well known for its rich history and optimistic future.
