Boston Logan is one of the 20th busiest airports in the United States, serving well over 25 million passengers each year and is New England’s leading transportation center. Approximately 4 million are international passengers, making BOS the 12th busiest airport for international travel. Despite having such a large airport, Boston is the largest metropolitan area that does not serve as a hub for any major airline. As of 2010, BOS had one of the nation’s worst rankings for domestic delays.

Location
BOS covers over 2,000 acres and is situated in the East Boston neighborhood, in addition to covering some land in the neighboring town of Winthrop, Massachusetts. Drivers can access the airport via I-90, I-93, and Callahan Tunnel. It boasts as being the ‘easiest airport to’ due to the number of options available; cars, taxis, regional bus lines, city lines, shared rides, just to name a few.

History
Logan’s first commercial hangar was built in 1925, and regularly scheduled flights between Boston and New York started two years after. Series of improvements began a short while later, including a new horseshoe-shaped terminal in 1949. Throughout the next few decades, expansion and construction continued to assist Logan to stay on the forefront of aviation and support the constant increase of passengers.

Services
Four passenger terminals each have their own ticketing, luggage claim and ground transportation services. Convenient access by a walkway system connects them all to a central parking garage. In total, BOS is home to 102 gates. The top domestic destinations out of Logan are Chicago O’Hare, Hartsfield-Jackson, and New York’s LaGuardia airport. 40 airlines offer non-stop flights to more than 100 domestic and international locations.

Designed by the US Green Building Council, BOS has the very first terminal in the nation to be LEED certified for their environmental features, including heat-reflecting windows, waterless urinals and self-dimming lights.

For those serving in the military, the airport has its very own USO Lounge, located in Terminal C. For those traveling with pets, Pet Relief Areas are located near every terminal as well.
