About AUS Airport
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport began serving passengers in 1999, and sees more than 9 million travelers on an annual basis. The airport has been vigilant in meeting and exceeding the needs of Central Texans through the 21st century and beyond. Serving as a multi-use facility, Austin International provides commercial aviation, general aviation, and is home to the Texas Army National Guard. The city of Austin, Texas, is known as the ‘Live Music Capital of the World’ and guests can enjoy listening to live, local bands that are staged throughout the terminal as they arrive and depart the airport.

Location
Austin International is 5 miles southeast of downtown Austin. A bus provides basic transportation to and from the main campus of University of Texas and stops in downtown Austin each way. The airport also has three helipads for helicopter service.

History
Austin-Bergstrom International is a fairly new airport, but aviation service in the city of Austin started in 1930 with the Robert Mueller Municipal Airport. However, residential areas became closer and closer to Mueller Municipal, and the city eventually needed to find a new location for an airport.

The Bergstrom Air Force Base was selected to become what is now known as Austin-Bergstrom. A team of engineers and contractors accomplished putting together a plan for the new $585 million airport that opened in 1997

Services
10 airlines offer nonstop service to over 35 destinations, including Chicago, Seattle, Phoenix and seasonal flights to Cancun.
